I used to spend way too much time creating content.
I’d plan it. Draft it. Tweak the words. Adjust the design. Write the headline.
And after all of that..
Minimal views. No saves. Definitely no DMs. Just silence.
No comments. No clicks. Maybe a like or two out of pity.
I’ve been there.
We live in a content-saturated world. Your audience is scrolling through hundreds of posts everyday like memes, tips, videos, job updates, cat photos, viral threads.
And that’s just in the first hour of their morning.
At some point, I started asking myself this one question, and honestly, it changed everything:
“Would I even read this?”
Like, really… would I stop scrolling for this? Would I care?
Most of the time, my honest answer was: no.
👉Why This Question Changed Everything
Most people write content from a self-centered place:
👀What do I want to say?
👀What makes me look smart?
👀What’s going to “sell” my thing?
But readers don’t care what we want to say.
They care about what helps them. What moves them. What solves something.
When I shifted the question to “Would I read this?”, everything became clearer:
I cut the fluff. I got more personal. I focused on value, not just volume.
Let’s be real. We’ve all seen posts like:
Old version:
“Storytelling is an essential part of content marketing.”
We all know that. But… so what?
👉Now I’d say:
“If your content doesn’t make people feel something, they won’t remember anything.”
💡 Emotion is the hook — not definitions.
Feels different, right?
What I Do Differently Now
Here’s how I use that one question in real life now:
1. I write like I talk
No more formal “professional” voice. I write like I’d say it in a voice note to a friend, like this.
2. I get to the point fast
I cut the long intros and start where the reader’s attention already is: the real thing they care about.
3. I focus on one message per post
Not 10 tips. Not 8 ideas. One clear takeaway.
If someone remembers just one thing from my content, I’m happy.
After that, I am asking my self again,
“So… Would You Read This?”
That’s the question I ask now — every time I write.
Not:
❌ “Is this smart?”
❌ “Will people think I’m professional?”
❌ “Is this going to go viral?”
Just:
✅ “Would I stop and actually read this?”
If you would, someone else probably will too.
If not? You just saved yourself a few hours.
You’re welcome. 😉
